Biography Back in 1998, three old friends got together looking for an excuse to get drunk and maybe write a few old school tunes along the way. Jacob LeBlanc, Loney LaGrange, and Philip Gaspard together spearheaded a project that was truly brewed in the South. The original line-up was a three piece with Phil on bass. After having experimented with both drums and bass, Philip held true as a pure metal guitarist. It then became a very unique sound, two guitars, drums, no vocals, and lots of Jack Daniels. There were many late nights and hangovers from this period in the bands history. After trying out a few different bass players, someone brought up another old friend, Wayne Porche. Porche is the ex-drummer and vocalist of Factor 8. Wayne came in and blew the rest of the band away, not on drums, but on bass. No one even knew he could play. He also brought certain other psychedelic influences into the band. Now the band had a signature sound labeled, Southern Stoner Rock. With influences ranging from The Allmand Brothers to Black Sabbath, the band had acquired the ingredients to mix a perfect batch of swamp metal. After a few months of experimenting with different samplers and PC programs to create random noises and ambient sounds, Mickey LaGrange joined the band and brought in some much-needed dynamics to the table. Mickey adds an element to the bands sound that can only be found below the Mason Dixon Line. It gives the music an atmosphere that cant be achieved with traditional instruments. It was during this time that the name was brought to the table by LeBlanc. Hence the band was dubbed...Southern Whiskey Rebellion. The only slot left to fill was a vocalist. After many long practices with many different recruits, the challenge was met by LeBlanc himself, who had absolutely no experience with vocals at all. This worked to his advantage since there was no preliminary expectations. He developed a unique style for each song and to this day considers himself a guitarist first and a singer second. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2005 SWR met yet another challenge as one of its founding members, Philip, decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The remaining members then set out to find a replacement. The slot was quickly filled by a talented guitarist/sound and recording engineer from the Houma area named Ron Orgeron. The future looks bright for the band as the CD, "On Guard Until Seal is Broken" has gone over very well, and has been accepted by a wide range of listeners of all ages. SWRs sound has been described by some as a brutal collision between Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The whole band was born and raised along the bayous of South Louisiana and it defiantly shows in their sound. SWR has made their mark all along the Gulf Coast scene for the past two years, they are a must see. Support The Cause, Stay BentS.W.R.
